8 retired Indian Navy personnel were sentenced to death in Qatar

The eight men were arrested in Doha on August 30, 2022. They have been in solitary confinement since their arrest. Their trial began on March 29, 2023. 

The charges against the men were never made public. However, reports claim they have been accused of spying. Sources said some of them were working on a highly sensitive project involving Italian technology-based midget submarines with stealth characteristics. 

The eight men worked at Qatar's Dahra Global Technologies and Consulting Services. This private company offers training and other services to the defense and security agencies of Qatar. 

Qatar has the death penalty, primarily for espionage or other threats against national security.
