Indian President Draupadi Murmu presents awards to Himachal Pradesh University students

The students of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Shimla were presented medals and awards by the President of India Draupadi Murmu during the 26th Annual Convocation. On Wednesday 19 April, the convocation was held where 10 students including 7 girls presented gold medals.

The President acknowledged the efforts shown by both students and the university by providing meritorious students with good quality education. During the convocation, 99 students achieved their Ph.D. degrees of which 59 were female and 40 were men whereas 77 female scholars and 34 male scholars were presented gold medals.

During the event, Draupadi Murmu stated that this university indeed provides quality education, and students from all over the world enroll here also due to the pleasant climate of Himachal Pradesh. The flora and fauna are the main attraction for the students. But due to several reasons, there is a vast climatic change that is affecting the region. It is important to look after this problem and bring out preventive measures as a solution. People should move forward toward the goal of sustainable development by conserving the rich natural heritage of the state. The institutions like Himachal Pradesh University should promote research and developmental methods keeping in mind the needs of the local community.

Shiv Pratap Shukla, chancellor of the Himachal Pradesh University who is also the governor congratulated all the scholars and medalists and stated his concern over the illegal trade of drugs in the region. He also stated that this should be eradicated soon by launching a mass movement by the students and youth together. He further added, "Today, India is proud to preside over the G-20 countries. The concept of 'One Earth, One Family, One Future ' was not built in a day. It reflects in our thoughts, our nature".

The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu was also present during the event and shared his experiences being a student of this university. HPU was his alma mater and this university has brought up many laurels from students in various fields, he added.
